5. FINAL BATIK

Back to The Batik Process

All areas not to become orange or red (white, blue, green, yellow, pink, purple and beige) have been waxed and the batik dipped in orange. Then the orange and brown areas were waxed and the batik dipped in red to get the red and rust colours.

Hand painted washes of pink (over blue to get purple), beige and grey complete the colours. All wax was removed for the second time, the batik ironed, hemmed and rods attached to top and bottom. In this photo the final batik is hung outside on a clothesline, to see the fight from the sun shining through.

Once in a permanent location it can be stretched and framed like a painting on canvas, and even stretched on a light box to maximize the transparency.

BATIK IS MOST EFFECTIVE WHEN BACK LIT. The co;ours do not fade and the batik can be washed by hand in mild detergent (no bleach !) and ironed (cotton).
